Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2012

Singapore’s National Dragon Boat team proudly returned from the recent Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2012, held from 7th to 9th September in Busan, South Korea. The teams participated in the 200m, 500m and 5000m in both the standard boat and small boat categories. This pitted them against traditional powerhouses such as China, Taipei, Australia and Philippines and even Tahiti, a new team which shook the Asian dragon boating scene.

The Singapore team managed to perform up to expectations, returning with 3 bronze medals from:

1. Open 200m, Standard Boat

2. Open 500m, Standard Boat

3. Mixed 200m, Small Boat

The Open team also managed to clock its official personal best of 1’51, breaking its old record set in 2008.

The National team is currently looking into recruitment in November, in preparation for important races next year. They are the DBS Marina Regatta in May and SEA Games 2013 in Myanmar. Interested paddlers may join the national team training in October to prepare for the recruitment trial in November. Details to be released at a later date.
