SDBA conducts a few sessions of SDBA Helm Accreditation Scheme in a year.
The purpose of this Scheme is not to train helms but to accredit helms who have demonstrated a level of capabilities and having able to competently helm a crew.
All candidates applying for the SDBA Helm Accreditation Scheme must:
a) Be proficient in paddling in a dragon boat with a minimum of one (1) year paddling experience;
b) Must have a basic helming skill and knowledge, within minimum of one (1) year practice in helming a dragon boat with their respective teams;
c) Must possess a First Aid or CPR Certificate; and
d) Be able to swim a minimum 50m distance (in any swimming technique) in light clothing with and without a Personal Floatation Device (PFD).
An overview and the workings of the Scheme will be introduced in the 1-day workshop, followed by a short-written assessment and a practical test in water on the same day.
Applications must be typed out neatly, together with a current passport size photo on this prescribed form. Any incomplete or illegible application will be rejected.
Each session (class) can only accommodate up to a maximum of twenty (20) persons and participation is on a first come first served basis upon complete registration and full payment made.
You are advised to submit application and payment early to avoid disappointment as the places are filled up very quickly once registration is opened.
