SDBA Helm Accreditation Scheme

To all SDBA affiliates:

We are pleased to inform you that the Singapore Dragon Boat Association will be conducting the SDBA Helm Accreditation Scheme 2012 from 29th to 30th September 2012. Enclosed is the application form for your immediate action.

Having accepted to this Scheme, applicants are required to attend a two day series of lecture, written test, practice helm and test on water. The purpose of this Scheme is not to train helms. The training of helms is the responsibility of the individual affiliate, club or organization.

Prior to attending the workshop of this Scheme, each new helm would have the following:

a) A full year as a helm and a rower

b) Trained in a variety of conditions i.e. morning and evening, windy and calm conditions, full or half crew

c) Have had control of a dragon boat (helming) on at least 10-15 different occasions with a minimum of 30 minutes for each session

d) Have a First Aid or CPR Certificate (desirable but not compulsory at this time)

All accepted candidates will be informed of the purpose, overview and the workings of the Accreditation Scheme before the workshop begins. Please note that the class is only able to accommodate up to a maximum of 20 persons and it will be on a first come first serve basis.

The closing date is on Monday, 24th September 2012 at 12.00 pm.
