Foundation Instructor

The SDBA Foundation Instructor Course represents an enhanced iteration of the previous SDBA Recreational Instructor Course. Effective since November 2023, the SDBA Recreational Course has been discontinued. It is imperative to emphasize that the Recreational Course Certificate remains valid and continues to be duly recognised. However, significant supplementary components have been incorporated into the Foundation Instructor Course, which prompted the name change.

It is essential to highlight that both certificates remain eligible as prerequisites for NCAP Technical Level 1 (Dragon Boat). Nonetheless, instructors in possession of the Foundation Instructor Course Certificate shall be accorded specific exemptions, given that certain modules have already been comprehensively addressed in their training.

During the comprehensive SDBA Foundation Instructor course, candidates will participate in engaging lectures, a written test, and practical sessions both on land and water. Please note that acceptance into the course is subject to your application approval. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment.
  • Able to swim 50 meters without PFD.
  • Completion of Dragon Boat Basic Helm Certification or equivalent experience
  • Participants must hold a valid Standard First Aid with CPR and AED certification accredited by SRFAC
  • Show proof of a minimum of 100 hours of steering as the helm in the dragon boat.
  • Participants are required to have a specific level of physical fitness to proficiently operate the Dragon Boat, manage emergencies, and effectively communicate with the crew.

Please note that due to limited capacity, we can only accommodate a maximum of 20 participants.
Admission will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Details are as follows:

Course Fees : $540.00 (Inclusive of 8% GST rates) ($545 wef 1 Jan 2024)
Course Dates : 16th, 18th, 23th and 25th January 2024 (Theory: 6.30 pm to 10.00 pm)
28th January 2024 (Practical Assessment: 8.00 am to 6.00 pm)
Venue : TBC (most probably at Sport SG, 3 Stadium Drive)
