DB Safe Plan (27 Mar 2022)

In view of the updated SMMs and approval from the Authorities, the new DB Safe Plan dated 27 Mar 2022 shall come into use from Thursday 7 April 2022 onwards.

The key updates to note are:

  1. DB22 dragon boat
  • The DB22 dragon boat is now permitted to be used alongside the DB12 dragon boat

 

  1. Seating configuration
  • Side-by-side seating is now permitted.
  • You may decide how you want to place your paddlers inside the boat but please note the importance of balancing the left and the right sides.
  • You may have persons sitting in front on the forward bulkhead (in front of seat #1) but they must be part of the paddling crew size (see 3. Size of crew)

 

  1. Size of Crew
  • DB12: min 5 pax (4 paddlers + 1 steer or steer-cum-coach) to max 11 pax (10 paddlers + 1 steer or steer-cum-coach)
  • DB22: min 9 pax (8 paddlers + 1 steer or steer-cum-coach) to max 11 pax (10 paddlers + 1 steer or steer-cum-coach)
  • Exception to above only permitted for SDBA-run courses and National Squads (including National Premier, National Seniors & National Developmental squads) = 12 persons in DB12/DB22 dragon boats

 

  1. Field of Play
  • Only Max sized crew (i.e. 11 pax in DB12/DB22) are permitted to enter Marina Channel (i.e. go pass Shears Bridge) and/or Geylang River (i.e. go pass Tanjung Rhu Bridge)
  • Non max sized crew are NOT permitted to enter Marina Channel and/or Geylang River
  • Exception to above only permitted for SDBA-run courses and National Squads
  • Please monitor the Lightning Warning System (LWS) beacons and MyENV app (steerspersons are required to bring along their smart phones)
  • Please bring along sufficient rope to tie boat up to the nearest pontoon in the event of sudden Cat 1 weather that renders you unable to return to base safely

 

  1. Paddling in Same Team but Different Crew at any time, including same day and/or session
  • Permitted
  • Any changing of crew must be done safely on shore or at SDBA pontoon (not any other non-SDBA pontoons) or your launching base (i.e WSC or PA Passionwave)
  • No rafting of boats permitted – Must maintain 1m gap between boats

 

  1. Paddling in different Teams
  • Permitted if 1 day apart between Team A and Team B
  • A negative ART test before the next paddling session may be required by the next Team

 

  1. Singapore Dragon Boat Festival (SDBF)
  • Shall be raced in the DB12 boats.
  • Venue shall be PassionWave @ Bedok Reservoir (brand new building but same old race course)
  • Tentative dates: 3, 4 & 5 June (with the possibility of second weekend on 11 & 12 June)
  • SDBA intend to seek special permission to permit full 12 persons in the DB12 boats (10 paddlers + 1 steer + 1 drummer)
  • Alternative plan is to go with 10 persons (8 paddlers + 1 steer + 1 drummer)
  • Race distance is still being debated, either 250m or 500m.
  • PM Cup distance is still being debated, either 500m or 1000m (race course permitting)
  • National Schools A & B divisions racing categories are planned to be included as part of SDBF
  • Expect limited racing categories as there will be some categories that will be hosted in Pesta Sukan and/or Singapore Regatta Waterfest (SRW)
  • More info will be released in Bulletin 1, scheduled to be released next week
