ICF Dragon Boat World Championships 2022, Račice, Czech Republic

Team Singapore Dragon Boat return to play at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships Račice, Czech Republic.

COVID-19 pandemic has seen International Dragon Boat Championships cancelled or postponed one after another since 2020, from International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Championship 2021(cancelled) and more recently, the 19th Asian Games (postponed from September 2022 to September 2023)

The Singapore Dragon Boat National Men and Senior Teams were excited to be back competing again in this International World Championship after a long break.

The Republic took home a total of 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals in the Master’s category race events of International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championship which began on the 1st September 2022 and concluded on the 4th September 2022 in Račice, Czech Republic.

The National Men’s team also came close to adding a bronze to the medal tally too. With a close fight in the 200 metre race, missing out a podium spot by 0.68 seconds

Held across 4 days, the 2022 edition featured top competitors from 14 other countries: Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Lithuania, Moldova, Spain, Slovakia, Thailand, Taiwan and Ukraine.

The Singapore team consists of 41 Athletes, 2 Coaches and 1 Team Manager

National Senior Team’s Head Coach – Mr Edward Yee on the display of the team performance in this World Championship.

“I am please with the team’s overall performance in this World Championship. The team displayed a much improved execution, better teamwork and fostered better communication during this trip which help them to break the team’s personal best result in a few categories and also achieve the podium placings on the world stage. The team’s success has also seen the team develop a more hungry and stronger desire to win in the upcoming IDBF World Championship 2023”

“The Singapore Dragonboat Team’s participation in the 2022 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships is a symbol of Singapore’s resilience amidst the covid pandemic. Our journey to the World Championships has been one filled with emotions. At every turn of events, our commitment and passion for the sport was tested. In the face of uncertainty and a prolonged season, our athletes demonstrated true perseverance by overcoming their own doubts and working their way towards the World Championships.”

Next up for Team Singapore Dragon Boat, the 2022 Asian Dragon Boat Championship taking place in Pattaya , Thailand between 19th-22nd  November 2022 as they take on the Asia’s best competitors!
